Some ExT missionary candidates come to us with an exact city, region and country in mind for their ministry, while others are literally open to the whole world. Where do you fit? Would you like to know more?
First of all, it’s important to understand a few things about how we do missions:
1. FMWM appoints ExT missionaries to one of our four world regions (Africa, Asia, Latin America or Europe) and not to a specific country. Of course, we are very open to knowing where the Lord is leading your heart – that is an important consideration in placing you – but we also want to be clear that in the course of an ExT missionary’s career, there is a strong possibility of at least one reassignment. After all, a missionary’s job is to go and enable indigenous leaders – to eventually work themselves right out of a job!
2. All FMWM missionaries, both ExT and short-term VISA workers, go only at the invitation of the Area Director for their world area and from the existing missionaries and national church leaders. Those interested in becoming missionaries are encouraged to contact FMWM, and we will facilitate the necessary inquiries and arrangements with the field.
3. How big is our box? FMWM traditionally sends ExT missionaries in roles such as leadership development, teaching/training, medical missions, ESL instruction, etc., all contributing in some way to evangelism and church planting. However, we are always open to new ministry ideas and we try to lead with a “yes.” Can we place everyone who comes to us? No, because as a mission, we cannot be all things to all people and are not set up to handle every type of ministry. What are your ideas and might they fit with our ministry? Contact us to find out!
