How can anyone say for sure exactly what it takes to be an ExT missionary? There is room for discussion when you consider the many types of missionaries and the various fields and ministries. And quality control has to balance with the urgent need of the world to hear the gospel, as well as out-of-the-box situations God may bring our way.
So, without trying to design a box that's too tight to maneuver in, we've laid out some basic qualifications to give you a picture for what we generally expect of ExT missionary candidates.
Some Basic Qualifications for ExT Service:-
Thriving relationship with Jesus Christ

Experience in personal evangelism

Engaging in mission at local church

Interpersonal/communication skills

Basic Bible competency

Ordination track (for church development-related ministry)

Cross-cultural experience

Willingness to learn another language

Commitment to a minimum of 10 years’ service (two terms) — need to have at least 10 years to work until retirement age

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

Free Methodist membership

Legal resident of the US or UK
- Education and coursework relevant to field assignment

A saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and a life empowered by the Holy Spirit (characterized by conscientious study of God's Word, the practice of effectual prayer, and a love for people)

A missionary passion for lost souls, demonstrated in regular efforts to share one's faith and the good news of the gospel

Primary aim of making disciples for Christ, no matter what the missionary assignment

Willingness to sacrifice comfort and convenience as necessary to reach the world

A deep conviction of God's power and presence which will stand the stresses and tests of ministry in another culture

A godly, teachable, humble attitude, characterized by respect for authority, dedication to servanthood, and commitment to teamwork

Evidence of personal and spiritual development including a healthy self-image, loyalty, cheerfulness, sympathy, graciousness, and the ability to communicate, cooperate and relate effectively to others

College preparation or evidence of professional competence; some level of missions training and experience (VISA is a great place to start)
- Knowledge of the Bible and doctrine; advanced training for those going into leadership roles
